Tips, Cleaning, Maintenance

Curious how it works? Already own a BCD Mint Gold Bar & Polishing Kit and looking for tips on usage or maintenance? Check out our BCD Mint Gold Bar Quick Start Guide here.

Excellence by Design

At the heart of our BCD Mint “Gold” Bar lies an unwavering commitment to excellence by design. We started with examples of gold bar dimensions and worked to find the ideal proportions for our miniature version. It needed to feel right when carrying it in our pockets. It needed to be large enough to hold while polishing, and small enough to be unobtrusive. You’ll see the attention to detail in the final dimensions and in the perfectly proportioned edge rounds that make the bar so comfortable to hold.

Superior Craftsmanship

The best design can only be realized through craftsmanship and attention to detail. Starting with a solid piece of brass, every bar is machined, inspected, and tumbled in abrasive media to produce a consistent satin finish. Each bar is then laser engraved on the front face of the bar and just like a real gold bar this process marks each bar with a unique serial number. No two bars are alike! Finally, the bar is tumbled a second time in a different process to remove the burrs from engraving and produce a finish ready for you to polish to perfection.

A Gift to be Cherished

The BCD Mint “Gold” Bar and Polishing Kit is more than just a crafting project; it's a gift to be cherished. Whether you're presenting it to a loved one or keeping it as a symbol of your personal accomplishments, this kit offers a meaningful and unforgettable experience. The joy of polishing your “gold” bar to a dazzling mirror finish is a journey in itself. Once completed, the finished piece becomes an heirloom, a statement of your commitment to quality and craftsmanship, ready to be displayed and admired by all.

Imagine the delight on a friend's face as they produce their own custom gleaming “gold” bar, or the pride you'll feel when you display your hand-polished masterpiece. It’s not just something to have, it’s an investment of your own time and effort to produce something beautiful, and the “gold” bar will remain as a symbol of that commitment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as a fidget toy to a point, but could just polish anything

This is basically a small "gold" (brass) ingot that you polish. You spread some of the polishing paste onto the cloth and rub to cut through the oxidation/tarnish and shine the metal. Works well, but you could do this with other metal pieces (brass, silver, pewter, anything that needs occasional polishing) and do something useful. The polishing compound also works well on coins it seems, and I've brightened up a few with the same kit.

I've barely begun to polish the bar and it...

I've barely begun to polish the bar and it's already very nice looking.

Can't wait until I am done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun gift for hard to buy for folks

A friend and I have a running gag where we gift each other gold bars at Christmas/birthdays, etc. Could be chocolate wrapped, could be a toy, it's all fair game. When I found this at the end of the year, I knew it would be perfect in keeping up with our tradition. While it's not technically gold, it's a little gold bar and comes in a really giftable box and a very nice velvety pouch. Unfortunately, my friend lives out of the country and this didn't arrive early enough for me to gift it while he was here for Christmas, but when he's back in the spring, I'll be able to give it to him. I don't think he'll be able to top it and I'm excited to see how shiny it turns out after he's done polishing.Super cute, and the little bar has a lot of heft to it.Highly recommend for your gold bar afficionados!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating "gold" bar

This gold bar is cool! It's obvious it needs polishing, which is part of the purpose of gives fidgeters. It's smaller than I thought it would be but no less cool. It takes a while to polish but it's very satisfying. The polish feels solid with a greasy/oily base. It didn't rinse off without some help from soap. I assume it keeps the polish from drying out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Most Unusual Fidget Toy

Stop: If you are buying this because you want a mini-bar of gold... you will likely be disappointed. This is a fidget toy... a most unusual fidget toy.If you are a person who enjoys polishing silverware or a coin collection, this might the item for you. This is a small (yes, it really is pretty small) bar of brass that needs to be polished so that it has a gold-like appearance. That's about it...Notes-- Designed for someone who enjoys accomplishing mini-tasks and seeing the fruits of their labor. That really is the only way I know how to describe it.- If you don't want a small piece of brass to polish... this probably isn't the item for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its Wierd...

This was my 1st fidget toy of this type and I wasn't sure how I liked it. It takes a substantial amount of rubbing and pressure to even start seeing a real difference. Its also very small and hard to get the edges.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it

I do love this. I got it for my son who has ADHD (age 9). He got to work on it right away, and has really enjoyed working on it, putting it down, and coming back to it. Makes the project last longer that way. It's tiny, but I don't personally think that's a bad thing. Based on the fact that there is no information in the description that mentions it being re-usable, I don't think it is, but that would be an awesome feature. I'm not sure that I agree that the $30 price tag is equal to the value of the size of the bar, plus it's single-use feature, but it is a very cool idea, nevertheless.

5 Star Review on Instagram

Bring a little shine into your life with the new 'BCD Mint Gold Bar & Polishing Kit' by Bruce Charles Designs. The 'gold' bar (actually brass, cos, you know... it would cost like 5 grand...) is a little totem, or worry stone, that you are invited to take from a dull, tumbled finish, to a mirror shine, using only some elbow grease and the included polishing kit. I have only worked on mine for an hour, and the difference on the engraved face is remarkable. I feel an attachment to the little guy already. Packs of 2 are available, and the bars inside will have sequential serial numbers on them. Give one bar as a gift and compete with a friend or loved one for who can achieve the best shine! A big thanks to BCD for this wonderful little item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun little fidget toy

The tarnished 'gold' bar is made of metal and has a good weight to it. The kit comes with the tools necessary to polish it up and make it shine. It's been fun to play with it and keep my hands busy. It's relatively clean now, but I don't know how long it will take to tarnish again so I can rinse and repeat. I'll update the review when I know more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Newest BCD Fidget a Hit!

I'm a fidget owner, and this latest one from Bruce Charles Designs is the most unusual I've run across. Most fidgets you just pick up and go with it, but this one takes some prep work to get the full result. It only takes a few minutes of polishing to understand that "Hey, maybe, this is part of the intended soothing fidget reward!" Hard core fidgeters, this one is for you! Seriously, it took me a while to get the hang of it, you can see in the photo it's not quite done, and I used too much polish I'm sure. There is a good instruction video from Bill Strahan you can scan. I love the weight of it in my hand. It doesn't really need to "do" anything. Who doesn't want a piece of "gold" to hold onto? Good job BCD. Well, shoot, I can't get the photo load. Will try again later.
